Remote control of your Garmin GPSMAP is now possible from Android devices. Garmin

launched the first Android version 1.2 on June 30th 2014.
As mentioned in my previous post about Garmin Software Updates – the Garmin Android Helm was mentioned in the release notes for the new firmware.
The new Garmin Helm Android app will work on phones and tablets. With it you can

remote control your GPSMAP 5×7, 7×1 8×0 and 10×0 series chartplotters via their inbuilt Wi-Fi.
You can also remote control the GPSMAP 8000 series but that requires an External Wi-Fi access point like the Garmin Marine Wi-Fi adaptor. With the GPSMAP 8000 the Garmin Helm app is compatible with Garmin SmartMode so chartplotter grouping works as it does on the GPSMAP 8000.
The app is available for free 🙂 in the Google Play store.
